A BATTERY MOOCH POST: Efest Purple 35A 3700mAh 21700…only 30A but a great performer, similar to Golisi S35

This is a great performing cell but it runs at close to 90°C at its 35A continuous rating. This is too hot in my opinion for decent cycle life as most cells say not to exceed 75°C-80°C. I don’t know why Efest decided to exaggerate the rating but it was completely unnecessary.

Actually, I do know why…our obsession with high rating numbers. I just don’t like that these companies feed into that instead of just showing us it’s a great performing 30A battery.

This Efest’s appearance and performance is very similar to the Golisi S35 but different enough that I cannot say they are the same cell. The Golisi is a bit better performer at lower current levels but the Efest shows less voltage sag at the start at 30A.

I am estimating the ratings for this Efest to be 30A and 3700mAh. The 30A rating helps to keep its temperature down closer to the 80°C limit used by other cells.

Two cells were purchased for the purposes of testing by me.

Test report: https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/threads/bench-test-results-efest-purple-35a-3700mah-21700-only-30a-but-a-great-performer-similar-to-goli.858169/

These tests only note the estimated ratings for these batteries at the time I tested them. Any battery that is not a genuine Samsung, Sony, LG, Panasonic, or Sanyo can change at any time! This is one of the hazards of using “rewrapped” batteries or batteries from other manufacturers so carefully research any battery you are considering using before purchasing.

Misusing or mishandling lithium-ion batteries can pose a SERIOUS RISK of personal injury or property damage. They are not meant to be used outside of a protected battery pack. Never exceed the battery’s continuous current rating and keep the plastic wrap and top insulating ring in perfect condition.

Any rating in the tables can change at any time as different grade cells appear on the market or we get swamped with fakes. Please, never assume that the ratings in the table are permanent and will never change! Always download the latest version before considering any cell purchase.

From Melissa

It’s been six years since I thanked you, and now I have to again. lol Though this time, you’re a lot busier with many more people msging you (sorry to add to the pile, will be brief.)

1. The Ares is a wonderful tank. Haven’t liked a tank as much since the Kayfun Lite+, which I solely used until the Ares, for the last three’ish years. You, Dimitri, and Innokin have outdone yourselves.

2. Your review on the Berserker MTL RDA inspired me to give dripping atties one last shot (I’m exclusively mtl and spent too much money on rdas that just weren’t for me) and I’m glad I did. It’s great.

All throughout my vaping experience, you’ve given some of the best advice and have helped so many people. Myself included. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Again. 🙂

A BATTERY MOOCH POST: Can the 2500mAh VTC5A run for longer than the 3000mAh 18650’s?

The Sony VTC5A is more efficient, i.e., it has a lower internal resistance, than the 3000mAh Sony VTC6, Samsung 30Q, and LG HG2. This means it has less voltage sag when being used and takes longer to drop to a low voltage cutoff point. But does it hold its voltage up well enough to run for longer than batteries with 500mAh more capacity?

If you just compare the mAh delivered by both down to 3.2V (https://imgur.com/a/QvYU2) then it looks like the 30Q is equal to or better than the VTC5A. But for a regulated device the voltage the battery runs at is important too, not just the capacity. You want the battery to stay above the mod’s low voltage cutoff for as long as possible. The watt-hour (Wh) specification for the battery take both the voltage and capacity into account.

I compared the watt-hours delivered by the VTC5A and 30Q at 10A/30W and 20A/60W down to 3.2V (about 3.5V-3.6V when put on a charger). At 10A/30W the 30Q was the winner, lasting about 10% longer.

But at 20A/60W they both ran the same amount of time.

Why? The larger voltage sag of the 30Q shortened its running time enough that the VTC5’s greater efficiency, and smaller voltage sag, let it run for just as long.

Bottom Line: At up to about 17A/50W or so the 30Q, VTC6, and HG2 will run for longer in a regulated mod. At above 20A/60W the VTC5A is the better choice. It will run for the same amount of time or longer and will run cooler at any power level.

For an unregulated/mech mod the VTC5A is the better choice since it hits harder, i.e. runs at a higher voltage, at the discharge current levels typical for those mods.

The Sony VTC6 and LG HG2 perform about the same as the 30Q and these results will be about the same for them.

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT FLAVOR SURVEY COMING MONDAY

There is an important survey coming on Monday regarding e-liquid flavors.

It’s EXTREMELY important that we not only take this survey, but we spread the survey far and wide as quickly as possible!

This is no joke folks, they want to take our flavors away. We need to do everything in our power to prevent this from happening.

Here’s a brief introduction to the survey by Dimitris along with some quick Q&A on it.

Flavor Study Announcement Presentation Q&A

Please participate in the largest survey to date in the US on how flavors have helped adults transition from smoking

A BATTERY MOOCH POST: “Favorite Battery Company” Poll Results

The results of the 24-hour poll I put up earlier this week are in. I asked you to vote for your favorite battery company, manufacturer or rewrapper. Over 1,100 of you responded and Sony was, by far, your favorite. Thank you!

Though I asked just for a single company name a decent number of votes were for multiple companies, multiple batteries, had separate categories, etc. Many of these had to be skipped but the shorter responses had just the first company mentioned used as your vote.

I have some reservations about the results though. I think I did not word the title of the poll well.

In my mind I was asking who made or wrapped the batteries you like/use the most. But I think a lot of votes were for the company that you felt should be the favorite or the company you would like to use the batteries from. Not the company that actually makes or wraps the batteries you use most often. A few votes on Instagram were for a company that hasn’t even released its batteries yet.

I get a very large number of messages about using rewrapped batteries but there were very few votes for any of those companies. This is what is making me think that many either felt they shouldn’t vote for a rewrapping company or didn’t want to deal with the possible abuse from other vapers after they posted they use rewraps.

Here are the results though: https://imgur.com/a/XtCAQ

So, what do you think?
Are Sony batteries really that commonly used?

The next poll will be asking what specific battery you use most often.

Vape advocate: Scientific evidence clears the air on vaping as tobacco harm reduction

Nicely done Dimitris!

Because these products contain dramatically fewer toxicants and chemicals when compared to smoking, there is a growing understanding in the public health community that vaping is much less harmful than cigarettes. A recent study by Public Health England says vaping— or e-cigarette usage— is 95 percent less harmful than smoking.

Larry Faircloth vs FDA Lawsuit Emergency Update

We knew it was coming….We all Did.

Why is the FDA Racing to End Vaping all of a sudden?

The war has been waging since the FDA announced their Deeming Regs and put them into effect in August 2016. The industry is now at a pivotal point as recent actions are proving what we all thought to be true from the beginning.

MONEY IS IN THE MEDICINE: NOT THE CURE.

Here is where the Industry Stands; and WE Need Your Help

You are receiving this email because you believed in a fight against the Over Regulation by the Federal Government and their Nefarious disregard to public health by ending an industry that has proven with its over 9 million users that it is truly a less harmful solution.

Recently we have seen multiple moves by the FDA that proves their desire to get rid of this industry. It is bad enough we see the attacks of taxation and T21 legislation on state levels, however it does not compare to the statements made by Mr. Gottleib recently:

  • Lowering Nicotine Levels in over the counter products (Vapor Products Included)
  • Eliminating Flavors down to the necessary flavors (Tobacco and Menthol)
  • Swift and soon to come enforcement actions on vapor products, labels, and unregistered products

For 2 years blame has been laid on 2 separate entities as to why the deeming regs were put into place. One side argued it was Big Tobacco, and the other side argues it is Big Pharma. My friends, the proof is now in the pudding that both have been working together on some degree.

The FDA clearly stated just a few days ago, they wanted to allow an ‘open market’ within the vapor industry by moving it the pharmaceutical industry. Open Market? Open?

Could this mean that Big Tobacco will have the open market they always wanted to produce product for Big Pharma? But that would mean only one thing my friends.

WE BELIEVE THE FDA IS PUSHING FAST AND HARD TO GET THIS INDUSTRY TO THE “MEDICALLY APPROVED” ARENA.

Yes, it means ‘by prescription only my friends. But some could argue they can not currently do that with all the pending litigation and lawsuits. This is a true statement. In order for them to do it, something drastic would have to happen.

BUT IT HAS MY FRIENDS

A lawsuit was recently filed by the American Cancer Society and many other entities that could potentially kill this industry in one clean swipe. If the FDA were to concede or settle with this lawsuit out of court, (many have already stated this lawsuit will be fast tracked), it would in essence return the PMTA process back to August 2018 (and nullify their previous move to 2022). From that point they could ‘move and approve’ the entire vapor industry to what they always wanted, the medical field.

We all know that if this happens, the price of e-liquid and vapor devices (closed system only) will skyrocket considering insurance mandates will cover them (and remember medicaid is a taxpayer funded system).

MONEY IS IN THE MEDICINE MY FRIENDS
Considering Big Tobacco is taxed at a total rate of nearly 60 percent…I think we all can quickly agree that if they monopolized the market through a collusive effort, the pricing would increase dramatically. Hence Billions of dollars of taxation yearly going straight to the Government.

WE MUST STOP ALL OF THIS FROM HAPPENING MY FRIENDS

I truly and sincerely believe the FDA is cornered and didn’t expect such a dog fight with those in this industry. I feel they are cornered and they know it. Yet, they cry that they must ‘save the children’ and are scrambling to do what they originally set out to do.

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO END THIS!
Each of you stood with us in the beginning, and now we are asking you to stand with us at the end of the fight. We may only have one shot at this, so we need to use all resources. After all, there are truly nearly 40 million smokers that are relying on our actions even if they do not know it yet. Please click the link below my friends and stand united with me. I would hate to think we could lose this fight in the 11th Hour and at the Goal Line when we could be so close to a victory! Without you, that could happen. This has truly been the ‘vapers lawsuit’ that has given the fight they never expected!
