{"id":22058,"date":"2020-07-16T10:11:50","date_gmt":"2020-07-16T14:11:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tasteyourjuice.com\/wordpress\/?p=22058"},"modified":"2020-07-16T10:11:50","modified_gmt":"2020-07-16T14:11:50","slug":"from-regulator-watch-hazard-or-benefit-unpacking-canadas-new-vaping-regs-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tasteyourjuice.com\/wordpress\/archives\/22058","title":{"rendered":"FROM REGULATOR WATCH &#8211; Hazard or Benefit? | Unpacking Canada\u2019s New Vaping Regs (2020)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s the latest from Brent Stafford at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.regulatorwatch.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Regulator Watch<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In the effort to stem youth use of vaping products, Health Canada announced its final Vaping Products Promotion Regulations, which set out measures to further restrict the advertising and promotion of vaping products to youth.<br \/>\nCentral to the government\u2019s approach is a strict requirement to display \u201chealth warnings\u201d on all vaping products, promotions, and point of sale materials.<\/p>\n<p>While overall the new regulations are welcome by industry, it\u2019s becoming increasingly difficult for stakeholders to accept, what may be considered as the \u201coriginal sin\u201d of the Tobacco and Vaping Products Act; the enshrinement of vaping as a \u201chealth hazard,\u201d rather than as a tool for harm reduction.<\/p>\n<p>The notion that vaping is a \u201chealth hazard\u201d imbues the regulatory framework and nowhere does one find a comparison of the potential health benefits of vaping to the known dangers of smoking\u2014what is hazardous to health could never provide a health benefit, so the argument goes.<\/p>\n<p>Joining us today on RegWatch is Sam Tam, President of the Canadian Vaping Association.
