For decades public health and tobacco control have bludgeoned smokers with the message that smoking kills. And, in order to save one\u2019s life you really only have one choice and that is to quit, or you could die. It\u2019s a stark message, often delivered with moral zealotry and a whiff of authoritarianism.<\/p>\n

But what if there is another choice? A choice that reduces harm by allowing the consumption of nicotine in a manner that is magnitudes safer than smoking: there is such a choice and of course we are talking about vaping.<\/p>\n

The potential for vaping to save lives is manifest to those in the harm reduction community who have battled so hard against the ill-fated war on drugs.<\/p>\n

Joining us today on RegWatch is one such warrior, Harry Shapiro. For over 40 years he\u2019s fought to eradicate the harm caused by ineffective and intolerant drug policy and for the past half-decade, he\u2019s been a leading voice for tobacco harm reduction.<\/p>\n
