VAPING NEWS: OREGON [65% Vape Tax]

“Oregon nicotine users will face steeper costs for their products of choice starting Jan. 1, after Oregonians voted Tuesday to set higher cigarette, vape and cigar taxes. Vaping products will, for the first time, have a tax of their own — 65% of the wholesale price. Oregon voters overwhelmingly favored the new taxes, which were heavily promoted in TV ads and elsewhere. Partial returns as of 11 p.m. Tuesday show a 66.8% yes vote.”

VAPING NEWS: THE STROKE ASSOCIATION [Supports Vaping As Safer Alternative To Smoking]

“The Stroke Association has updated its position statement on the use of electronic cigarettes. It still supports vaping as an alternative to smoking based on the latest evidence from the National Health Service and Public Health England. The Stroke Association’s latest position statement says: “Current evidence shows that the risk to health posed by e-cigarettes in the short-term is likely to be considerably less compared to conventional smoking. We support the view of Public Health England and other UK public health organisations that smokers should strongly consider the use of e-cigarettes alongside other methods to stop smoking.”

VAPING NEWS: SAN FRANCISCO [Vape Ban In Personal Residences]

“San Francisco could soon become the largest city in the country to ban smoking inside most multi-unit residential buildings, including inside units. The measure is expected to be considered by the board’s Public Safety and Neighborhood Services Committee at a meeting on November 12. The proposal by Board of Supervisors President Norman Yee would ban smoking and vaping inside housing complexes with three or more units, regardless if they are rented or owner-occupied. San Francisco has already prohibited smoking in enclosed common areas of multi-unit housing such as stairways and mailrooms, and in unenclosed areas within 15 feet from entryways or doors. If approved, San Francisco would join more than 60 jurisdictions in California that have a 100% smoking ban in multi-unit housing.”

VAPING NEWS: FDA [Vape & Tobacco Products PMTA Study Guidelines]

“This draft guidance is intended to help applicants (or “you”) design and conduct tobacco product perception and intention (TPPI) studies that may be submitted as part of a modified risk tobacco product application (MRTPA), a premarket tobacco product application (PMTA), or a substantial equivalence report (SE Report). TPPI studies are studies that can be used to assess, among other things, individuals’ perceptions of tobacco products, understanding of tobacco product information (e.g., labeling, modified risk information), and intentions to use tobacco products. It is possible for a TPPI study to also include an actual use component (e.g., an actual product utilized in a simulated use setting or a real environment of use); however, a discussion of actual use research is beyond the scope of this draft guidance. This draft guidance addresses the following scientific issues for applicants to consider as they design and conduct TPPI studies to support tobacco product applications”

VAPING NEWS: AUSTRALIA [Call For Personal Vaping Testimonies]

“The Australian Tobacco Harm Reduction Association (ATHRA) has put out a call to Aussie vapers to send in a personal testimony to the Senate Inquiry into Tobacco Harm Reduction by 5 November 2020. ATHRA says this is “the most important” call they’ve ever put out and tells vapers down under that “it is vital that you write a personal submission”. Unusual for a consultation exercise, The Inquiry has expressly requested personal anecdotal evidence from users of vape products. We have never seen the like in Europe, although vapers were and still are encouraged to contact their local MP about vaping and their experience.”
